These are the Colorado Math Standards for 1st grade. Your child should know these standards by the END of 1st grade.           

 

  You will be able to read, write and find the place value (tens or ones) of numbers to 100. You will use pictures to show numbers from 0-100.

 

You will put numbers in order from 0-100 starting at any number less than 100.

 

Count from 1-20 by 2’s. Count to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s.

 

You will read, write, and find the place value of a number. (Ex: 29= 2 tens and 9)

 

You will write the number in expanded form (Ex: 29= 20 9).

 

    You will be able to count objects using, first, second, third, fourth until you get to twentieth. 

 

    You will use manipulatives to show simple fractions such as ½, ¾, 1/3, 3/5.

 

    You will memorize addition and subtraction facts. You will have to choose whether to add or subtract to solve a story problem or to estimate answers.

 

          Demonstrate addition and subtraction using materials.

         

Understand basic addition sums to 20, and subtraction differences to 10.

 

Know the signs for addition ( ), subtraction (-), and equal (=).

 

   You will be able to repeat a pattern using concrete materials

 (     ___)  or numbers (3,6,9,12, _,_) .

 

    You will continue a pattern from a table and be able to tell what the pattern is. (0,5,10,15___ adding 5) .

 

    You will be able to explain how patterns change when there is more than one object.

Example: 1 bike has 2 wheels, 2 bikes have 4 wheels.

 

    You will read and fill in information on a bar graph or tally chart. From the bar graph you will read the data and use words like “more” and “fewer”, or “most”, “same”, and “fewest.” 

  

You get to be a detective and use the information on the chart to answer questions.

    

    You will determine the number of outcomes when you flip a coin. 

 

You will spin a spinner and record the results.

 

 

You will be able to identify congruent plane shapes (2-D). 

 

Create simple designs using shapes or tangrams.

 

Describe the number of sides in triangles and quadrilaterals.

 

You will draw squares, rectangles, circles, and triangles. You will measure the lengths of these shapes to the nearest inch or centimeter.

 

     You will know when to use a measuring cup, ruler, scale, thermometer, clock, or calendar and you will know the unit to use.

 

You will measure the length of an object using foot, inch, centimeter.

 

 Measure capacity in cups.

 

Weigh an object on a balance.

 

Tell time to the nearest hour and half hour and tell how many minutes are in an hour.    

 

Know how many days are in a week and name the days of the week in order.

 

Measure temperature to the nearest 10 degrees.

 

You will tell the value of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. .
